Notes on What's What

Updated: Oct 7, 2022

I've read Island by Aldous Huxley three times in the last year. In many ways it was the inspiration for this blog. It's a book I'll probably continue to come back to annually because of how well it reminds me of truths that I already know. That's the funny thing about life truths isn't it? We know them already but somehow still forget.

I'm hoping this blog can be one more thing to help me remember. What is it that I want to remember? That the secret to life is attention.

"Here and now boys!"

Freedom is always found in the present moment. Acceptance is always an available choice. The subtlety comes in knowing that acceptance doesn't mean non-action.

What Island teaches is that awareness of the present moment and the ability to accept it can inform the way that you do life. This is the essence of spirituality and what all the great religious figures and mystics have taught us.
